Categories: Letters to the Editor, OpinionIn Vice President Pence’s address to one of the most right leaning organizations in this country, CPAC, one of the others being the NRA, he claimed, rightfully so, that the United States doesn’t stand with murderous dictatorships; we stand up to them, referring to North Korea. That’s certainly an admirable position. But by feeding these organizations the “red meat,” the Trump administration feels it needs to placate the base. We have neglected our history in dealing with and supporting despotic, tyrannical and murderous regimes. I don’t expect Donald Trump to have much interest or knowledge of history, so let me give a few examples of the rogue nations we have supported or turned a blind eye to because it suited our needs. First and foremost is Russia under Stalin, who had millions of his citizens sent to the gulag. How about Chile, where we had a democratically elected leader, Salvador Allende, removed in favor of a military dictator, Gen. Pinochet? Next, I might mention Iran, where we and the British installed Shah Pahlavi in support of our and their oil needs. We all know how that turned out. I could go on, but on the chance Mr. Trump reads The Gazette, I wanted to keep this within his intellectual capacity to absorb.James BrodieSchenectadyMore from The Daily Gazette:EDITORIAL: Beware of voter intimidationEDITORIAL: Thruway tax unfair to working motoristsSchenectady police reform sessions pivot to onlineTroopers: Schenectady pair possessed heroin, crack cocaine in Orange County Thruway stopSchenectady’s Lucas Rodriguez forging his own path in dance, theater, music
Siem Offshore Contractors (SOC) has awarded Møkster with a new contract for its vessel Stril Server to be deployed for walk-to-work activities at the Beatrice offshore wind farm in Scotland. The new contract has been signed for 21 days, plus options, and will “fill the gap” until Stril Server starts its next walk-to-work project for VBMS in mid-August.According to a Notice to Mariners recently issued by the Beatrice marine coordination team, Stril Server has mobilised on 3 July to replace Siem Aimery, which had been on site acting as an accommodation vessel for Siem Offshore Contractors technicians, who have been carrying out testing and remedial works on various strings of the inter-array cable infrastructure.Siem Aimery left site on 2 July to demobilise in Peterhead and sail for Hartlepool to load cable for the next inter-array cable installation campaign.Offshore WIND Staff
Friday’s MLB slate is one of the most loaded that we have seen this season in terms of value, as the the BetQL models are listing five games with three-star value bets on the money line and another four games as at least 2.5-star run line bets.We have swung and missed on the Twins twice already this week, but we will be targeting them one more as road favorites against the Tigers. Minnesota has been the most profitable team to bet on in all of baseball this season, and it is yet again undervalued. The other game that we are going to target is the Yankees against the run line as they travel to Cleveland to kick off a weekend series with the Indians, who finally look to be turning things around after a slow start. German leads the AL in wins along with Justin Verlander and has a decent ERA of 3.66. The Yankees have been great on the road this season, including a record of 8-4 over their past 12 games away from home. You can certainly look to take the Yankees on the money line at -130, but the BetQL models see more value taking them -1.5 at +130.BetQL Pick: New York Yankees Run Line (+130)Check out BetQL Mobile App’s Trending Picks and Public Betting tool before making all your bets, and follow me on Twitter (@DFSBenj) for even more NFL, NBA, MLB and PGA daily fantasy and sports betting content. Minnesota will head on the road to face the Tigers tonight as -140 favorites. Going on the road hasn’t been a hindrance to Minnesota at all this season, as it leads the league in road wins with 21 and has the second-highest road winning percentage at 65 percent, trailing only the Rays. The Twins have not announced a starting pitcher for tonight and there is a good chance that they use tonight as a bullpen day with no pitcher throwing more than a few innings. Detroit will likely have the advantage either way with Matthew Boyd on the mound, but this Twins team is substantially better in all other facets of the game. The BetQL models have handicapped this game at MIN -205, and it listed as the joint-highest rated value bet of the slate.BetQL Picks: Minnesota Twins Money Line (-140)MORE FRIDAY MLB: DFS picks | SP rankingsNew York Yankees at Cleveland IndiansStarting Pitchers: Domingo German vs. Zach PlesacMoney Line: NYY -130, CLE +110Run Line: NYY -1.5 (+130), CLE +1.5 (-150)Total: O/U 9 RunsThe Indians have to be one of the most disappointing teams in the league this season, as their record is only a mediocre 31-31 through 62 games. Their offense got off to an abysmal start, but it has started to turn it around over the past few weeks mostly due to the hot bat of Francisco Lindor. With that being said, they are at a mismatch tonight in a matchup with the Yankees, who will be starting Domingo German.
