Prostitution crack down necessary says Premier to Police Commish

first_imgFacebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsAppProvidenciales, 23 Dec 2015 – A new thrust in crime prevention is coming as the Royal Turks and Caicos Police Force is about to get the green light to be far more aggressive when it comes to cracking down on prostitution. The Premier, in a media release from the Governor’s Office giving an update on a Friday meeting of the National Security Council, is reportedly pushing for prostitution and human trafficking to get keen focus in the National Security Strategy, which is a plan under construction. Details of the strategy are to be presented by Commissioner James Smith in January when the NSC meets again. Very careful consideration to address the higher incidence of crime in Providenciales is the reason the Police Commissioner on December 18, gave to the Premier and the Governor for the transfer of police officers from Grand Turk to Provo. Commissioner Smith expressed that the shuffle of the eight officers was done in a way that it will not hurt policing in the Capital. The Premier, Hon Dr Rufus Ewing was not 100% sold on that though and said the re-deployment should be monitored to see the impact it has on the Capital. During that NSC meeting, Premier Ewing again called for the introduction of CCTV and street lighting to be increased. It was revealed that at least one resort owner has reported that crimes against guests is up, this includes harassment of visitors to our shores. The Governor, Peter Beckingham determined that he will write and request a meeting with that resort owner with an update to come at another NSC. Absent from the NSC meeting were Deputy Governor Anya Williams and Border Control Minister Donhue Gardiner. IMA scam gets bigger What next for Mansoor Khans hospital and school

first_imgMohammed Mansoor Khan, MD and CEO of IMA groupfacebookIMA has surfaced as one of the hideous scams that have ruined the lives of many. With their vast ventures, including bullion trading, jewellery, infrastructure development, educational institutions and hospitals, running as a legitimate front for the dubious scam people were easily lured into it.The duped investors who had gathered around IMA jewels after the release of the alleged audio clip by the group’s owner and managing director Mohammed Mansoor Khan still had some hope left in them due to their bling trust and faith over their beloved “Mansoor Saab”.However, all the institutions under IMA have been shut down except for the Frontline hospital at Venkataswamy Naidu Road in Shivajinagar. Even though the hospital is working some of the people inside the hospital has claimed that Frontline has no connection with IMA or Mansoor Khan and is a separate body. Frontline hospital boardAmal RasheedaliThe hospital, which had a board saying “IMA initiative”, was quickly removed from its name board after the problems started escalating. The IMA website still claims Frontline to be a part of the group. BMTC bus displaying IMA adfacebookThe depositors gathered near AS Convention Centre at Shivajinagar to file a complaint against IMA alleged that not even a bit of gold was left inside IMA jewels when they went to inquire about the happening after the audio clip surfaced. Nasser (name changed) also claimed that the jewellery staff were also not properly paid for several months. Govt VKO school Shivaji Nagar adopted by IMA groupFacebookNot just the investors, students future has also been put at risk by the group after Government VK Obaidullah School adopted by IMA also remains shut due to the ongoing investigation against the group. The school was adopted and transformed by the group in 2017. It facilitated nearly 900 students and over 90 staffs, of which none of the teachers has turned in after June 10.While most of the public and depositors have knowledge about IMA and its functionaries much less is known to the people over their modus operandi. It is alleged that Khan left the country after he came to know that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was on his tail. Many of the teary-eyed depositors are still not able to believe that their messiah in white robe has turned out to be a camouflaged devil.last_img read more

Bullying bosses turn employees into bullies too

first_imgAccording to the researchers, such rude behaviour is common at a politically-charged workplace and this incivility is fast spreading.Experiencing such rude behaviour reduces employees’ self-control and leads them to act in a similar uncivil manner, say Russell Johnson and colleagues from Michigan State University. “People who are recipients of incivility at work feel mentally fatigued because uncivil behaviours are somewhat ambiguous and require employees to figure out whether there was any abusive intent,” said Johnson, associate professor of management. Also Read – Add new books to your shelf“This mental fatigue, in turn, led them to act uncivil toward other workers. In other words, they paid the incivility forward,” he noted in a paper which appeared in the Journal of Applied Psychology. While curt remarks and other forms of incivility do not involve openly hostile behaviour such as bullying and threats, they are a frequent occurrence in the workplace and have a significant effect on employees. For the study, 70 employees filled out a survey relating to incivility and its effects three times a day for 10 consecutive workdays. Interestingly, the researchers found that “incivility spirals” – when acts of incivility lead to subsequent acts of incivility – can occur unintentionally. Also Read – Over 2 hours screen time daily will make your kids impulsive“When employees are mentally fatigued, it is more difficult for them to keep their negative impulses and emotions in check, which leads them to be condescending and rude to colleagues,” Johnson noted. The study also found that incivility spirals occurred in workplaces that were perceived as political (where co-workers “do what is best for them, not what is best for the organisation”).“Being the victim of incivility leaves employees depleted because they must expend energy to understand why they were targeted and how to respond,” the study stated. One way to reduce perceptions of politics, the study says, is by providing clear feedback to employees regarding the types of behaviours that are desired, the authors wrote.last_img read more
